This project opened the opportunity for us to move beyond using Shoji screens merely as face facades as we were asked to create a large room divider, providing privacy for a bedroom and home office.

Using ebonised (black) solid oak for all the framework and plain oak for the horizontal lattice, the contrast of these two colours against the Japanese paper is stunning; creating a warm feel in the rooms, yet bold enough to feel the security of the divider as a strong "wall".

All the panels are fixed except for the main front panel, which slides left or right to create a private space for the bedroom or office side of the room.
